Making the blankets for these kids is very special to me and to all the other Girl Scouts working on this project. We are making the blankets for all the kids at Riley and St. Mary's Children's Hospitals, but I am making these blankets in memory of one special little boy and his family.
His name was Gabe. He was only 5 years old when he got sick. I didn't know him not even a little, but his mother worked with my mom. We prayed for him every night. Gabe had a tumor in his leg and it was cancer. The doctors said he had leukemia and he would have to have chemotherapy. Sadly Gabe didn't make it, but he memories still live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
People need to recognize that children too get cancer, not just adults. Thanks to everyone that supports childhood illnesses. We hope you will consider supporting our project so we can we can help the children who are sick. We want to make them happy while they are in the hospital with a horrible disease or sickness. By helping us, we can make the children feel a little better and make a difference.
